Nikka Taketsuru: A Japanese Whisky Worth Trying Out

-

It is with no denying that the popularity of Japanese Whisky seems to be increasing as years pass by. Even though their distilleries were entirely based on imported knowledge, they are not simply making scotch from Japan. There are numerous elements in the production of Japanese whisky thus explaining why the world is hooked on the products.  One of the Japanese whisky brands that currently enjoy a huge following is Nikka Taketsuru. In this post, we are going to examine some of the things you need to know regarding Nikka Taketsuru.

What is Nikka Taketsuru?

The Taketsuru series is among the most popular signature lines by Nikka, fundamentally a blend of malt whiskies produced at its Miyagikyo and Yoichi distilleries. The coveted 17-, 21- and 25-year expressions have all won honors at the World Whisky Awards and International Spirits Challenge. This is quite fascinating considering only a handful of whisky brands have been able to achieve worldwide recognition. Taketsuru is the highest selling label of Nikka’s founder, Masataka Taketsuru, who is regarded as one of the founding fathers of Japanese Whisky. No wonder it enjoys a huge following in different parts of the world.

Taketsuru range is labeled as “pure malts” produced by the two malt whisky distilleries.  Their whisky distillery based in Yoichi mainly focuses on producing rich, peaty and masculine malt whereas Miyagikyo produces soft and feminine mixed on the whisky giving it elegance with complexity. The 25-year old expression is a very rare brand from the Taketsuru range considering it is made with malts aged for at least 25 years from the two distilleries (Yoichi and Miyagikyo). You might be surprised to find out it was only until 2012 that it was launched in Japan.
