Merge Excel Files: Combining Workbooks into One File

-

So you want to merge several Excel workbooks into one file? This can prove to be a daunting task especially when doing it for the very first time. Without having a single clue on how to merge Excel files, you will remain glued to your Personal Computer not knowing what to do next. Fortunately, there are different methods you can employ when looking forward to merging existing workbooks and worksheets into one file.

One of the easiest ways to go about this is copying the cell ranges. Actually, this is one of the most widely relied upon methods by beginners. All it takes is for you to select the source cell range after which you can copy and paste them into your main workbook.  Even though it might sound easy, this method is so stressful when dealing with several cell ranges or worksheets. Nevertheless, it is the fastest method to follow when having a few ranges.

If copying the cell ranges is not your thing, you can settle for the INDIRECT formula. Unfortunately, this method tends to be somehow complicated and comes with some drawbacks. Furthermore, it only works when all your files are in a systematic file order and your main intention is importing some certain values.

With the INDIRECT formula, you get to build your file and cell reference. Through this action, the original files are maintained and the INDIRECT formula looks up values within these files. In case you happen to delete the files, then you will receive #REF! errors. One thing you ought to keep in mind is that this formula only has one argument i.e. the link to another cell can also be located within another workbook.

These are just but some of the methods you can follow when planning to merge several Excel workbooks into one file. Be sure to leverage the internet if you’re to find other methods that work perfectly. Through this action, you will never go through a hard time simply because you have no idea what it takes to combine workbooks into one file.
